this is one of my favs that i have done so far. i didnt feel like putting in a bg, so i just thought gray was nice and neutral. i figured out a new way to draw cartoon noses, so i have kinda been experimenting w/ that.

thats one sick pick !!

What's wrong with it? ^^ Bb,I think you're right, this one is definitely one of your best. I don't know why Lyra is wearing such poor clothes, but it isn't bothering me. It helps presenting the feeling of this pic. Oh wait..It's in Cittagazze isn't it? Well, then I understand why's she's wearing those clothes. Nice one!!

"sick" is a complement in the U.S....
yeah, it is good! i don't know about the noses, their a bit up-turned, but otherwise, great!

It looks nice. Silvertongue and America the beautiful, what part of U.S are you from? I've never heard that "sick" is a good thing.

i'm from Washington D.C.

I really like this pic. We use "sick" as a compliment in England all the time, have no idea where it came from though! (as slang for the younger generation of course!)

Pan does seem a bit bland though...
Cassidy: on 02/08/2007
I just looked at some of your older work and I really think that you have improved so much; I like your noses a lot better in this new one.
(By the way Lyra at heart age 13, I am part of the younger generation. Guess I missed something :) Oh well-, maybe people here in Texas will pick up on these things quicker in the future.)

yeah, pan is kinda boring. oh well.

i live in England, and have never heard of sick as summat nice. No one in Newcastle/ north east says that. Guess its just not a Geordie word.

so, to the picture.........
Definatly ur best drawing bb!!!!! i think u were right in opting 4 the grey background. I think it would have made the drawing cluttered and messy if u'd attempted a background. I really like this one: it certainly catches the awkward atmosphere of their meeting. However, while Lyra's expression is perfect 4 the phrase (if a bit timid), i never thought Will would one to sit on the floor and look sad. I think he would be more suspicious, seeing as an anonymous wild girl has just attacked him.
Still, the colouring is much smoother and, in general, more finished than any of ur other drawings. I love Lyra's hair, and her clothes: they seem in just the right state 4 sumone who has trekked over lots of hills 4 a few days. Such small details as the highlights on their clothes and the new fangled noses really show how much u have improved, and evidently this has rubbed off on ur drawings too. The only thing i think u might need to work on would be Pan- he seems mute, a toy, expressionless and plain. Try to give him more life, make him seem like a part of Lyra. Other than that, i think u really acheieved something in this picture: the emotional link and body language between the two is clearly in evidence :)

To defend will's pose:
i wasn't trying to make him look sad. my vision was that he was just knocked down by Lyra or something. that was my initial vision.
thanks for your comments lizzie

I love your comments Lizzietiffon01. On the subject of "Sick" I am obviously from the younger generation too (Lyra at heart AGE 13) and I live in Hertfordshire which is just outside of London. We use it all the time as a way of saying "thats cool".
above: on 02/10/2007
Just enlightening those who didn't know! I personally prefer to use "that rocks" or "thats cool" sorry for rambling on about the same thing for so long!
Lizzietiffon01: on 02/10/2007
thanks! well i'm 12, and no one says that in the NE. But in Newcastle, people say loads of Geordie words that people in the south probably wouldn't know either. So i guess it balances out.......

dude, i'm from the same generation. but let's not all go and put our ages on the internet.... creepy people out there.....
anyway, as i think i've said, maybe not, i', from america, sooooo, it makes sense they wouldn't say the same stuff in newcastle. ne way, i like their eyes, their really expressive, and lyra's pose, sort of like a ballet dancer's is great. good job, bb!
