WOW THATS SO GOOD!!

pineapple: on 02/16/2007

either the alethiometer is too big or the book is too small. otherwise it is PERFECT!!

Wicked! I love it,especially the details and I like the book also very much. Is it the book where the symbols of the alethiometer are explained in? Very cool!!

Brian: on 02/16/2007

Wow, I wish the one in the movie looked as good as this!

Andrea: on 02/20/2007

wow, how did u do this?
please say it's on the computer, because if it's not, my ego will crumble! best alethiometer yet!

Lotarico: on 02/21/2007

i want one...

Lizzietiffon01: on 02/23/2007

OMG this is absolutely stunning!!!!!! u seem to have a complete mastery over computer 3Ds, this is just, well, mind blowing! as detailed, beautifully crafted and textured as if it were real!! Like of which has never been seen on fanart b4 i don't think! The interior design of the alethiometer is so elegantly striking and originally composed, that it isn't a rip off from david scutts either, nor a cruddy weirdly unique design attempted by some pullman perfectionist, but simply MAGNIFICENT! The book is a touch of genius, and the only really noticeable thing i could moan about would b that the book would be lighted differently if the alethiometer is glittering so: the light source would be reflecting straight down on the book. Still, fantasticly fresh take on the alethiometer which i could neva achieve! cheers mate!

Impossible.

Nice. The book says Jordan College University Press on top. :)

I love the detail and the book of readings. I love seeing other people's interpretations of the alethiometer. Jordon College University Press. Nice.

Wibble: on 05/06/2007

Absolutely superb.

This image is great, but everyone should be aware that David Scutt, the artist who created the original images of the Alethiometer, the Amber Spyglass and the Golden Compass, owns the copyright. His iconic images are on the book covers that have appeared all over the world and while imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we would take a dim view of anyone infringing his copyright.

John Goodinson: on 05/26/2007

A I can assure you that ALL of the images used in the
illustration are my own creation.

The more I look at it, the more I wish the one in the film looked like this. It is SOOO much better in color, design, everything!

BDunnam: on 11/28/2007

Amazing picture John!!! I'd love to have it as my background, if you wouldn't mind. Do you have it in a 1280x1024, or any other larger format than what is posted on this page? My email is briand@shelbyinc.com Thanks

graymayne@jmcolter.freeserve.co.uk: on 12/01/2007

I am awestruck by your patience and skill. Well done!

Acheaen: on 01/27/2008

This is a fantastic image! Now if you could just produce the working Alethiometer that you photographed for this image...be wary of the Coulter's out there!

martin: on 07/29/2008

there is no way u drew this by hand! plz tell me u did it on the computer! if u drew this by hand, then ihave a new goal of who to draw better than. this is so exquisit in detail. the shading the light reflection, and eve the book its laying upon are all perfect! i WLL become good enough to draw this good and better. u sir, have set my goal!

Shelley: on 09/28/2010

Awesome work! I am creating sample donations for a fiber/yarn box and the theme is Steampunk. I actually was making a gold/gray colorway inspired by the alethiometer. Would you mind me using your artwork on the card to go with it?
