i`m currently re-reading SK,i came to the part where alethiometer told Lyra ONLY to focus on helping Will to find his father, but she went to Mary Malone, even if she shouldnt,so if she listened to alethiometer would actually Lyra and Will fall in love in each other? Then Mary couldnt know about the other worlds and she couldnt play the Snake. :?

My quick question is:
Has anybody else come across an article by Pullman talking about the power of illustration and how the church used to use pictures for the masses because they couldn't understand writing??
I'm starting to think I imagined reading it LOL
But I need to find it for my dissertation which is due in 3 weeks :S

Love, sweet love, was thought a crime.

You know, I find it amazing every time I reread HDM I find that I understand more and more of it like just today i realized what it meant to "play the serpent"
It kills me not to know this
but I've all but just forgotten
what the color of her eyes were
and her scars or how she got them

As the telling signs of age rain down
a single tear is dropping
through the valleys of an aging face
that this world has forgotten

there is no reconciliation
that will put me in my place
and there is no time like the present
to drink these draining seconds

but seldom do these words ring true when
I'm constantly failing you
like walls that we just can't break through
until we disappear

so tell me now
if this ain't love then how do we get out?
because I don't know

Hi there, I'm looking to find a word count (official or unoffical, so long as it's roungly accurate within a few thousand words) for the His Dark Materials trilogy.

Hid a few dead ends on google, so thought I'd try asking here. :)

I don't know myself but try asking dumbledad. He's involved in some research into HDM and has the entire transcript on a computer so can tell you how many words exactly it has (not to mention a myriad of other things)

Or take a word count of a few pages and multiply. It'll be something between 350 and 450 words per page, I imagine.

I get around 475,000 words with this method.
