What did everyone think of Ortiz?

He was an interesting character. He wanted to please the master so badly that he was blind to all his evil deeds. even though he was the master's slave. I suppose it's kind of like that thingy when a kidnapped person falls in love with their kidnapper. I really liked his infactuation with Kestrel. That was pretty funny. Those Haths are on fire!

I thought Ortiz was a bit unreal, actually. I mean, a warlord and still so innocent? I'd have thought he would enjoy cruelty a bit more. He seems to see burning people only as a necessary evil, or maybe not an evil thing to do at all.

I think that he was just brainwashed. The master imposed his will on everyone in the mastery. [spoiler]when Bowman beat him in their mind battle, the people all broke free of his mental fetters and trashed the whole city[/spoiler].
Maybe Ortiz was shielded from the brutality of what he was doing by the mind of the master.
