Ender's Game

Postby Tristan » Sat Oct 19, 2002 3:50 pm

I had briefly mentioned that I just finished this wonderful book back on the old boards. Anyone want to discuss it?

I recently bought Enders Game (after hearing about it on the old boards..) and it is really fantastic!!
Also just finished reading Enders Shadow earlier, which is just as good.

So thanks!

I still have to get Ender's Shadow... I've heard that's the same story as Game, only told from Bean's perspective.

If that makes sense

makes perfect sense... can't wait until I can get my hands on it.

Did you hear that they're making a movie of Ender's Game (and I think they're combining Shadow into it as well)?

lol, it's the age of converting good books into movies (which may or may not be half as good as the books...)

woo! my ender board came back! yeah, the ender movie is what they were considering using jake lloyd in, as ender. that would be most unfortunate. he wasn't that great as anakin in ep. 1. it'd be really hard to fit two huge books into one movie, even if they do overlap. they don't overlap that much. oh btw, anybody read speaker for the dead and xenocide? those are the other ones in the series i've read, tho there are some others. speaker was awesome too, though with a fairly different feel from ender. i didn't like xenocide all that much, tho. it was ok, but not great.

I had heard about speaker, but I didn't know there was another one called Xenocide... ::sighs:: my list of books to read grows longer...

Woohoo, just bought it. Only up to chapter 3 but having read this much, Jake Lloyd is too old to play Ender, or does he get older towards the end?

I've heard it is really good. I'll have to get it from the library sometime. What's it about?

sci-fi, aliens have previously attacked earth, humankind wants to strike preemptively this time to prevent the aliens (buggers) from attacking again.. so they train child genuses to be military commanders of the space fleet... ender is the best of them. Very, very, very good book. Just like everything else by Orson Scott Card that I've read so far.

Ive read Game and Shadow and i couldnt see why Ender was better than bean, In fact, id have chose him instead of ender. Whatr was the big deal with him anyway?

The only reason why ender was better was because he was a better leader... on eros, when everyone was practicing under bean, they didn't really like taking orders from him (even though the orders may have been fine). They always trusted Ender, however. It was just his nature and his personality that made him more likeable than Bean, I guess.

I loved Ender's Game!!! It was so cool. My English teacher reccomended it to me, and it was great! Something about that book sticks with you... kinda like HDM. I can't bring myself to read the other Ender books though.
