is Popular - the handiwork of a club DJ (I think) called Tom, who goes under the name of 'Freaky Trigger'.

He has set out to review every one of the thousand or so singles that have made it to number one in the British charts since charts were introduced in 1952. (By the way, I was born to David Whitfield's Cara Mia, and I knew that anyway and my daughter arrived to Dexy's Midnight Runners performing Geno, which he won't reach for some time.)

It's a long project, and as yet he's only up to the beginning of 1964 (Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five) so he's only just entering what I regard as the golden age of the pop single. I don't always agree with him but I find his insights fascinating. Especially as he is a good deal younger than me and so has different perspectives on the music I grew up with.

I'm going to be following this with great interest.
