LO: Official Press Release

Postby Tristan » Sun Apr 06, 2003 10:51 pm

I've got my hands on the official press release for Lyra's Oxford... am waiting for publishers permission before posting it here or on the site. Here's some highlights:

-LO will be released October 28th 2003
-Premise is that Lyra sees a flock of birds, one is a witch's daemon being chased by the others, and a mystery unfolds from there.

-also mentioned in the pr was that New Line plans three HDM films, given more weight against the rumor that only two films will be adapted
-Directors Stephen Daldry, Sam Mendes and Terry Jones have ALL showed interest in the movie adaptation.

(If I am allowed to post it, you can read the whole thing).

Why does it have to be the 28th? It misses my birthday by one day. :( Oh well, I guess I can always just ask for it as a late present.

nope, no specifics, just that Tom Stoppard is currently writing the screenplay for 'Northern Lights' ... although... refering to it as NL might indicate that they'll use that title, at least for the UK

They might still use TGC as the title in America. I hope they stick to NL, personally, but let's not turn this into another huge argument about the title.

it's fine both ways, don't argue

but a witch's daemon... that's cool...

I'm glad they're going to be doing three movies. I was hoping for an earlier October release date for the book, but I'll just have to get it for myself if it doesn't work out as a birthday present. I hope they don't end up pushing back the release date.

Now all we have to do is wait for the screenplay to be written, logistics worked out, locations scouted, actors cast, filming, post-production...

Plus the inevitible six month trans-atlantic staggering. We Brits are gonna have real trouble with spoilers when the movies come out in the states.
