I just made that up. Someone tell me whether I'm right.

It depends on the magazine. Unless it's one of the "heavies", there isn't usually a contract, or only a very basic one. You tout your story around the magazines one at a time and if one of them offers to print it and make a modest payment the writer says 'wahay!' and blows the proceeds on a doner kebab and a bottle of cheap Spanish Cava 8)

I bought the spoken word CD today just cause the map isnt attatched to it and doesnt get all messed up when you try to fold it up again like it does in the book. Plus, PP has the best storytelling voice ever. Period.

Oh shut up, you little tempters (or temptresses). I CANNOT AFFORD THE AUDIO. That's my mantra. I will ask for it for Christmas, like a good girl. You notice how the map isn't actually cloth in LO... perhaps in the paperback edition.

yea... it's like just thick paper or something, it's not even like the cotton-paper blend that makes up money, that'd be a nice material, just durable enough, with the clothy feeling...

or something.

i wish the map wasn't set in that manner, i've already dog earred a corner of it, after openning it the first time.

I don't know if this has been discussed previously, but on the back side on the map, how come there's a Magyar republic and a Hungarian Empire, though it's the hungarians who call themselves magyar.

Are you sure the Hungarians call themselves Magyar? Is it perhaps not an ethnicity in the region?

it's a group, and a language... it doesn't make up for the entire hungarian population.

Right, that'll be it then. In Lyra's World, the Magyar will have split off from (or never been part of) the Hungary that we know now.

Well, you learn something everyday. Though admittedly, today it was just 'Don't chew things that should ne'er by chewed', for me.
