I've studied Russian (not very much, but I understand it and can speak some as well) and... it's a very fascinating language, but the grammar is about as complex as the Finnish grammar, plus there's the different alphabet to learn... so it's not really something you can study lightly - if you really want to learn it.

Studying languages takes time... I don't feel that I've ever started learning a language from scratch, english you learn wether you like it or not, and german is similar to swedish...

um....
no hablo espanol....
I'm in spanish 3....
Might be neat to learn some new ones in college, japanese sounds intersting with its crazy grammar, and maybe some old languages would be neat.
hm... this side up, cool I can read upside down!

Bumping up this old post, just for fun ;) Fun conversation about languages!

Anyway, what I wanted to say, is that I'm Icelandic, and I believe Æsahættr is an Icelandic name, or at least based on Icelandic. "Æsar" is what the heathen gods are/were called, and "hætta" means danger. So it comes pretty close to meaning god-destroyer.

(Oh, and hi everyone. New here, although I don't plan on reading many topics here since I have yet to finish The Amber Spyglass! When I have, I'm coming back ;))

That explanation sounds very plausible, since I suppose the authority was a kind of heathen god. Welcome btw.

Not a good sign.
Just to add to the topic considering that it is answered, Aesir was the home of the gods, so any words based around that mean God probably.

Also, can anyone find a Finnish translator online, so that I can understand it in English? Please??

Err... wasn't that Swedish? It has too many consonants in the wrong places to be Finnish. In any case, google is your friend.
*sigh* Well, at least you tried.

Does 'belgiska' have anything to do with belgium?
