"o stars, isn't it from you that the lover's desire for the face
of his beloved arises? doesn't his secret insight
into her pure features come from the pure constellations?"

All the things I've read suggest that no, there will be nothing about Will. :( I want to know what happened to Will, his mother, Mary, Kirjava, all that!!!
And I think PP might have needed to put emphasis on the "Republic of Heaven" That was what Lyra and Pan were talking about in the end of the book. Something about her and Will not being able to be together because they needed to create the Republic of Heaven or something like that... I think. I need to read the end of that.... :P

I was just wondering if wills daemon will be seen or invisible like marys because wills daemon had been physically there where as marys hadn't.

will's daemon was actually pulled out of him. i believe it'd be there no matter what. dr. malone's daemon however, she had to put an effort into it to be able to see it.

I don't have a copy of Amber Spyglass with me but I was confused at this point. Serifina tells Mary that if she really works hard at it she'll be able to see other peoples daemons but no one would be able to see hers or Will's..... Maybe I misinturpreted it. Anyone have a copy with them?

I've asked this before and I'll ask it again: If Mary learned to see her dmon all the time then would it be able to effect the physical world e.g push a brick with its nose?

Well... Probably, if it can sit on her shoulder then he's solid isn't he? So yeah, he could probably do something like that. Not push a brick with his nose though.... he doesn't have a nose! :P

Doesn't mary feel the daemon land on her arm gently so it would be in the physical wouldn't it?if she could feel that from one try sooner or later she may be able to feel and hear it.

I wouldn't think it would affect our physical world because, like Lyra told Will, our daemons are inside of us, and therefore do not exist physically in this world. Your inside might be projecting the image of her daemon outside, which would account for Mary learning to see them, but because they are inside, they cannot affect the physical world.

I can agree however the book does say mary feels it slight weight on her arm when she tries to see him.

I think the book would have been a little bland if everything ended up perfect. I did not like the ending but i don't think it would have been as good a book everything turned out perfect

Does any one else get the impression that will may stuggle alot more than lyra with the separation.I just always think that he will be unhappy even if he marrys. You know the sort of person that goes out side to gaze at the stars every night just to 'think things through' whilst the mrs is inside with the kids.

That's exactly what I thought. However, Lyra's feelings won't be flat lined either. And that bench.. I think that's the moment that struck my mind the most, when Lyra asks Will to sit on that bench for an hour (or so) once a year.
Blessed be the forgetful.

Yeah I'm answering the question...

Postby Kram45 » Tue Jan 20, 2004 3:35 am

Okay. First of all, we were all disappointed by the ending. We can't change it and pretty much all the rest of the book was good. I realized about a week later that I liked the ending so I read Lyra's Oxford which ended abrubtly. Appreciate all the time and effort going in to the story.

If i wasn't already crying by then the bench brought me to tears, I love that bit now because it sorta tells us that its not the end and their love will live on.

Weeeell... I think I ran the whole gamut of emotions at the ending (there are still tears in my eyes whenever I read the last page). But somehow I guess I missed disappointment. No. However much it shakes you up, the ending is one of the most moving in all literature.

No i was disappointed as well as angry and sad and depressed. The ending just seemed so pointless.I see it differently now after i'v read it a couple of hundred times.
No i don't like to read it to often or that would spoil it for me.

Plus if you read the whole book thinking "awww how cute, they're gonna get married and have lickle babies everywhere" it's all the more impacting when they don't.

I dont think story telling hase rules althoe most peopel would of befered them together (including my self) would of put closer to the story of them wathere then so many unasered questions about them. Wasent an impact about it at all could of ifer been a serta no way for them to reunite or let them stay together or untinte later on but the way he left it you dont have a clue of what happens next. In my opinion a very poor and bad and lacking end to a good start.
