Another PP film: The Butterfly Tattoo

Dear Sraffies (and random RoH members),

I am proud to announce that my company, Dynamic Entertainment DEH, has optioned the rights to make a film based on Philip Pullman’s contemporary novel The Butterfly Tattoo!

We have not done this alone. Both BridgetotheStars.net and HisDarkMaterials.org have been covertly supporting this project since March 2006. Together with these great sites we prepared a pitch to Philip describing our plans.

These plans included the notion of an ‘open source’ film in which the entire Philip Pullman community can play a part. Shortly we will be posting more information on a project website to describe what this means. Our crew will consist of up and coming talent and we even have an award winning director tentatively attached.

This will be an awesome project and we are delighted Philip has this level of trust in our production abilities. Keep an eye on these forums to learn more.

Kind regards,

Rik Visser
Dynamic Entertainment DEH Ltd

P.S. Very soon (most likely later today) we will post an announcement on a number of sites asking for writers who want to try their hand at writing the actual screenplay. Further details will follow.

It might be a bit early on in the development of the film to be asking this, but when abouts would auditions for the film be?

Wow, quite exciting Rik. I will definitely keep an eye on things regarding this as I'm a filmmaker/cinephile etc. etc. with some on set/ crew experience to boot ;)
I'm assuming PA posistions and what not might be available for us fans.

I'm really excited about the whole "open source" bit. I haven't read the book yet, but I'm going to try to pick it up tomorrow. This is a great idea, Rick - good luck with everything.

Indeed.

More information will be made public when we have it. We only just got things locked down today, so quite a few things are still shaky. But yes, PA and runner jobs will be available to motivated fans (living in the Oxford vicinity).

Will there be any chance for international sraffies to help?

Certainly. This is an 'open source' film. The internet will play a role. Also, if you fly yourself to Oxford we'll feed you :).

Disclaimer: whatever I say here is not binding and may change. (Before we get sued.)

Congratulations :D. I'd like to apply for the screenplay if the stylistic/thematic tone of the book matches my writing, but by the time I get the book, I expect it will be too late to apply :). Good luck though!

I'd advise you to apply all the same. We will need some time after the deadline to read all the submissions. You should be able to get this book within two or three weeks, where ever you live.

There is a great summary on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Butterfly_Tattoo In case you want to find out more.

I've heard of the book but I don't think I ever remembered to track it down. Just read the Wikipedia info. Sounds like my kind of book! I must buy it soon.
