Yeah exactly, they don't announce films they aren't going to make usually lol Which means it is pretty much a lost cause, which is damn upsetting...... It was The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass that I was looking forward to the most.

:( It's downright irritating if you ask me. There was all that hype from Deborah Forte and then just...NOTHING!?! :?

Can't they see that there is an audience for these movies, look at the worldwide gross! :x
The LEAST they could do is release a director's cut, or at least the ENDING! Whether or not the effects are completely finished.

I suppose people who've seen The Golden Compass will have to read the books for closure. Silver lining, and all that.

Hmm, an interesting read from Mr. Pullman's website, specifically the regularly updated Q&A portion (First page):

Question:

Hi Philip, do you know if the subtle knife is going to be made into a film like northen lights was???? Shaun

Answer:

All I can tell you at the moment is that discussions are going on. As soon as there is any definite news, you''ll hear it on the website first.

Wow. It's not dead, folks. It's not alive either. But at least, not completely dead. Thoughts?

I think it's dead but they just don't want to say.

It is interesting because he has made his pessimism known as far as the fate of the sequels go (ex. http://www.philip-pullman.com/film.asp and assorted interviews here and there) and then this comes up, likely posted just maybe this month or last month ago.

It's dead. Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but my optimism for this project has withered away. They may be made into films later on... the biggest thing to grieve is the loss of the actors. But there are other actors to be found.

One day they'll realize Dakota Blue Richards just turned 21 and there'll be no point in making a sequel anyway...

There are other actresses besides Dakota Blue Richards!

Honestly, I think they should just re-boot it under the title "Northern Lights" in a few years.
