If Pullman were to write a companion in which they reunited it would only show weakness on his part, since he would just be giving in to the fans that want it to happen. It would ruin the powerful sacrifice, the beauty of the story. The story had to end the way it did in order to make sense, and toying with that end just messes things up. Even though their separation was heart-wrenching, it had to happen. Not every story has a happy ending, and that's one of my favourite things about HDM. It's real, and in real life you don't just get to walk off into the sunset and live happily ever after. So no, Lyra and Will should not be reunited.
