of his beloved arises? doesn't his secret insight
into her pure features come from the pure constellations?"

I like how it says on Northern Lights 'soon to be The Golden Compass motion picture' :P

This would be the first definite sign of marketing, then. The animals on the covers have something of Aslan in them. :S

Wow, those covers are pretty. Well, not TAS so much, but the polar bear and the cat look really cool.

Me too, I live in Ireland and the omnibus edition we have is not only a hardback but it's ridiculously big. In fact the American versions of the books are generally better in appearance then then our ones, they’re smaller (pocket size) and the cover art is way better.
I think thats the case with alot of American edtions of books.

I guess the idea is to promote the movie. Very much the same happened with Lord of the Rings and Narnia Chronicles. The main difference is that HDM isn't as ancient as those.

Ooo, I like these covers. I think they capture more of the books than previous ones. However the British hardback ones will always be my favourites. I suspect they'll release a new paperback of Northern Lights closer to the time of the movie with a cover from the film.

I can predict that they'll make a movie version as well.
