Exactly how I pictured it.......great work.

pineapple: on 03/08/2007

That's really good. Quote: "Iorek Byrnison was pacing swiftly, moving both legs on one side of his body at the same time, and rocking from side to side in a steady powerful rhythm." But that might have just been the one time.

amaing

Gyptian_Queen: on 03/14/2007

Awesome!

green: on 03/16/2007

>_< what's up with all this bear clothing? the armor-like stuff reminds me of a cockroach.

username: on 03/18/2007

Coakroach? I didn't see that!

Em: on 03/18/2007

Cool, I love it! This is excellent - I much prefer it to the other image with the horns!

Kree: on 03/21/2007

I really like it but I think the armor should look like steel

Skornenicholas: on 03/23/2007

Why steel? Seeing as it is rusted iron in the book, it seems to fit. Not what I imagined though...

Phoenix: on 03/27/2007

Great! not like I pictuued it, bu ten times better

William: on 03/30/2007

I am torn ... I feel like they tried to be a little too artistic. It looks cool, only his armor was more rusted in the book, and steel not bronze!?

Ryan: on 03/30/2007

That is so wonderful. I can't wait to see another trailer with more footage of Iorek, most Christian don't like Harry Potter so lets hope this will topple potter from his throne. Narnia was a gigantic hit, and Golden Compass well it reign this holiday season. Iorek is my favorite character.

Byron: on 04/01/2007

His armour was made of sky iron(meteoric?) and would presumably be dull gray and simple perhaps with some rust at the joints of the plating but not covering the entire surface. I think it should be a cross between both armors. Simple, and not artistic, but elegant. Almost crude, but still efficient and functional.

tundruss: on 04/09/2007

i always imagined that the armour was a dull gray with maybe a touch of metallic red flowing through it
i also don't really like the little clips of film it looks a bit to clean cut
and not how i imagined oxford at all
the oxford i imagined had lots of grey stone work
well will stop complaining now........
so farewell and tundra to you all

ND: on 04/10/2007

Im not sure if the armor should cover his belly or not...it seems a little too much...and I've always imagined his armor to be red or like rusted iron.

Whats with the weird circle-like patterns??

Fowl: on 04/11/2007

That's one point for Byron. In the book Iorek tells Lyra how he got his hands on some Skyiron and forged a new armor.
As I recall the book it describes his armor as crude and stained with old blood and rust. the armor should be gray with no art at all. Iorek is a warrior not an artist. Simple but yet functional. That's my oppinion.

Ardanawen: on 04/12/2007

In the book it said that the armour covered only Iorek's back and flanks, not his belly. Not that really matters, but I think that this one is really complicated to put on. And I still think that this one is too shiny and complex; it should be bare, strong, efficient and rusty. Though I had learned to like this design; beutiful yet not appropriate.
By the way, this must be the ending, isn't? When they go rescuing Roger from Asriel's hands; it's the only part when Lyra rides over Iorek while he weares the armour.

logan: on 04/22/2007

f-ing beautiful

soulcurls: on 04/24/2007

Pretty...but inaccurate!

samatha: on 04/24/2007

i love it!!!! it is soo much better than i ammagined

Witch_Queen: on 04/25/2007

Awesome! I love it, its just so perfect!

Persephones Bear: on 04/26/2007

looks like shell

Sohee: on 04/30/2007

I don't get how Iorek put that armour on..
I like the headpiece (where it kind of curls next to his cheek)
... just a bit unsure about the color and design.. and how complicated it looks. thought it would be a bit more smooth and less artistic. and I agree, it should be greyish with a bit of rust and dry blood..

Gabzie: on 05/01/2007

This is just concept art, so I expect it to look much better when the movie is out. ^^ It does look pretty cool, but yeah, not rusty or anything and it looks a little complicated.

Alibi: on 05/05/2007

My illustration class was assigned a mock cover for the Golden Compass, and I have to say that as illustrators, we tend to let accuracy fall by the wayside in favor of making a great piece. If the end result is a really sweet-looking bear in armor that captures your eye and imagination, then what does it matter if it's accurate or not? Granted, you want to keep to the flavor and feel of the book, but why sweat the details if you're making something beautiful? The look of the armor isn't what made these books great, folks. Let the concept artists have fun with it.

Ardanawen: on 05/05/2007

Well, I agree that a beutiful work capyures your eye and imagination, and may increase the attention of the spectator; but on counterside, it decreases yhe original message about the bears: Iorek is the pure bear, simple functional armor but he loves it, it's his soul, on the other side, Iofur has an ornated one, uncfuntional, and he desn't love it, he wants a daemon and to be human. Iorek likes to be a bear, his mind is clear and can't be fooled, and Iofur is usatisfied, he is triky and conspirational, and he can be fooled.
Also, the almost impossible beutiness and complexity of this armor can decrease the movie seriosness (lukily, a new teaser poster had emerged, and it shows the armor in a simplier and rustier)

azza: on 05/07/2007

better but abit to orange i pictured the it like that but silvery blue

hibi: on 05/08/2007

i agree with azza

Witch_Queen: on 05/15/2007

Alibi, so you study illustration? Where do you study? Cause I study illustration in Wales uni, I'm always happy to meet other illustrators :)

ARMOR X: on 06/19/2007

i agree on the bronze stuff and the rust but pretty good- or should i say possum awsome (even if its not an armored possum!!! :) "_ " >< !@#$%^()) Yaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~

nameless: on 07/16/2007

if I remember correctly, there was supposed to be an exposed and vulnerable part on his neck where the armor leaves a gap on the underside. I haven't seen that on either picture. It is still good though. I think I pefer the colo and simple design on the other, but I like the structure of this one. The helmet I believe should also cover more of the top of his head.

Alibi: on 09/12/2007

Update, dudes- I went to Comic Con in San Diego, and they had giant displays for the movie, one of which was a massive life-size model of movie version Iorek. The final incarnation of the armor looks great. It's ornate, but it also looks battered and hand-tooled, a lot like ancient Anglo-Saxon metalwork. It's going to look SO RAD.

Witch Queen: I just finished up at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Illustration > all other pursuits in life, eh what?

Anon.: on 01/09/2008
