First Look at Golden Compass Toy Line
Posted on by Merlyn

Figures.com have an extensive series of images showing prototypes of the toys by Corgi designed to tie in to The Golden Compass movie. Taken at this year’s New York Toy Fair, the photos show figurines of Lyra, the Gyptians and Mrs Coulter; with an alethiometer toy and several vehicles – including Lee Scoresby’s balloon, a carriage (as seen in the concept art) and the boat Lyra takes to the North. View the images.

Marketing manager Travis Allen says: “This is a huge deal for us on a number of levels. We’re really, really excited about it – it has the most beautiful style guide I’ve ever seen.” To what we’ve already seen, he adds that also on the way is a “digital pet that incorporates the idea of animal familiars inside a toy compass” along with “role-play costumes; a board game and collectible trading cards.”

  2. Dave says:

Between these and all of the great "Order of the Phoenix" toys coming out, my wallet is going to take a hit in 2007! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. jopari says:

i love the vehicle design… certainly not what i had thought of previously, but i think they look amazing. i especailly love the double-balloned craft.

i also see that one of the bears has a detachable jaw. heh.

This statue is going to be amazing. Wow. The monkey is absolutely perfect.

  5. Alison says:

    Its Iofur Barbie!

Lol. Seriously. Thats the first thing I thought with the Ice Palace Playset. I like the designs for everything though…I approve. I just don't know how my roommate will react to my new extensive collection of toys…….

  6. SNL says:

Is it wrong that I want the big Iorek slashing paws? And the Iorek plushie?

    http://photos2.figures.com/gallery2/showphoto.php?photo=2397
But the Golden Monkey looks so dang happy. >_<

  7. seanie says:

err… not so impressive… prototypes though yeah?

  8. Kyra says:

Although this was enevitable, does anyone else think that this somewhat… cheapens it? :wassat: But I'm not one to talk, cause I'll be buying it all!

  9. compass says:

the alethiometer looks like it's made of plastic…all i want is an alethiometer, i already have a porcelain doll that looks like Lyra, i guess i just need an alethiometer that's more genuine and a realistic model of a pine marten. they will go on my HDM shelf…haha, toys are just shelf decorations, but they do look nice. i didn't know there were harry potter toys like this.

  10. hoobits says:

Yeah I realize I'm petty for saying this , and I know they are prototypes, but this stuff looks like shit.

  11. crazy_stunt_girl says:

As far as action figures/ toys go, these are very well done! The detail on everything is beautifully done; they definitly rival those made for LOTR. I'm definitly not a action figure person and can't see myself buying any, but I do appreciate the detail and care they're putting into them to make them realistic. Especially considering these are only prototypes; makes you wonder how they're going to look when they hit the shelves!

  12. silvertongue says:

oh my gee !! lol ill buy them coz im so sad but omg this is excicting ?? how fast can 10 months go ?? nice detail n stuff lol

  13. silvertongue says:

bahaha a plush talkin iorek !! as long as my brother dosnt spill i still buy heaps of action firgues n plushes ..

  14. Witch-girl says:

Except for the plush talking Iorek, how very impressive it all seems to be!

  15. oreo says:

holy crap. this movie is going to be bigger then i thought. hell they even have a HDM board game there.
and transforming daemons dolls?? i cant wait to see how that works… ^^

  16. Silverfist says:

Holy Charging Oliphaunts! I actually liked some of them! I expected them to be ****!

  17. Chrissyboyuk says:

I think some of them look great others not so good.

I really like the vehicles, they all look brilliant – are corgi famouse for making toy cars? just a thought! – i think some of the characters look a bit duff, something a bit lifeless about them, perhaps its the colours, they all seem a bit washed? – it might just be the prototypes.

The soft/plush toys were ineveitable and the daemon changing ones are a great idea.

I thought the ice play sets looked a bit bland and shoddy, but i guess they are for younger kids. The most exciting thing i thought was the alethiometer! even though it is plastic (which i guess was always going to happen)its got some lovely detail on it!

i just hope this will spark some of the adult toy manufacturers like NECA to do a sort of statue or high detail series!

And somebody please make a set of beautiful brass alethiometers! i know there are fans – like myself – that would pay through the nose for a baby like that!

  18. Willl says:

Master Replicas (part of Corgi, just as Cards Inc are) are working on the more high-end replicas.

  19. g says:

    Lyra's Daemon is an ermine.

jumping the gun a bit, aren't we? she should have several…

  20. Reedie_Belacqua says:

    *o*
    i reeeally liked it all!
omg, i want the aletiomether!, and an iorek plush! *3*

Did you noticed there's also a HDM playing board?

  21. mysterygal says:

i LOVED the transfoming deamons but i could help laughing at the slashing lorek claws! :laughing:it reminded me of those incredible hulk gloves ๐Ÿ˜‰

but i completly loved the alethiometer!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE METAL ONES!i would buy one no matter what the cost!

  22. silvertongue says:

oi g reading Northern Lights through again made me realize that the most commonly taken form of Pan is an Ermine so

  23. Entilzha says:

    Here you go, alethiometer fans!

  24. Entilzha says:

Oops. Apparently that picture is of the actual one from the film. :wassat:

  25. Witch-girl says:

Hey, watch them make a version of HDM Monopoly, now that the movie's going to be so big! Who else thinks that would be fun?

  26. Annabel says:

Right… I want an alethiometer, a iorek plush, one of those inside-out transforming daemons (SUCH a good idea!!!) and a remote control spy fly! woot!

And those bear "claws" for dressing up are sooo cute ^_^

  27. Meg says:

That grinning golden monkey puts me off a bit… He never seemed even remotely pleasant at all. I like the zeppelin design but I'm notsomuch with the whole motorized double balloon thing. Sort of takes away from Lee Scoresby's rustic cowboyness to have him zipping around like it's Star Wars or something.

  28. Witch-girl says:

I wonder if they might have made a few of these toys for small children… :wassat:

  29. silvertongue says:

is it just me or more & more people & beginning to visit the site & make comments ??

  30. Wytchbabi says:

I'm absolutely disgusted. and yet…….sorely tempted to buy the damn things….. :wassat:

  31. Reedie_Belacqua says:

"is it just me or more & more people & beginning to visit the site & make comments ?? "

no, it isn't just you XD

goood, i want an aletiomether right now!

  32. Witch-girl says:

Methinks they should make an HDM-themed bong. For recreation, you know.

  33. jesssia says:

    o WG.

  34. rats_rox says:

    two words……..

    oh god………. :crying:

  35. seraphina says:

lol the soft toy iorek and smiling monkey are hilarious, cuddly iorek and smiling evil monkey! I love the alethiometer. I anticipate a non plastic adults display version-thing of it, I want one! I like the idea of the daemons toys changing, like how the cat-patalaimon folds out into an ermine, its like transformers, but makes a lot of sense. Think some of the soft plushie designs were a bit too simplistic looking.

  36. What.the says:

    ………. :wassat:

  37. DJ says:

I'd like a talking Iorek, as long as it said things like, "I'm going to rip your still beating heart out of your chest and EAT IT!" and "Bears, WHO IS YOUR KING?"

On a serious note, I really would like a nice collector's Iorek that I could put up in my room.

We are using Umbraco as our CMS offering. Mainly because it fits the type of client we are aiming at a certain price point. Also because it is the best .NET open source CMS that we found.

They are smaller and don’t require so many features or fine grain control on security etc.

But of course there are other clients who are prepared to pay for off the shelf features and the license fee that comes with Sitecore or Episerver.

Right now Umbraco is helping us on our way. But as soon as that client comes along who needs that bit more and is prepared to pay the license fee for it, then that’s fine with us.
