Posted by Ian on February 7, 2008 at 7:26 pm
The Real Alethiometer ThumbJavno reports that to mark the release of The Golden Compass movie in Japan, Japanese jeweller Tanaka Kikinzoku has unveiled an 18 carat gold alethiometer which his firm has developed at a cost of $280,000 US. The compass measures 8.3cm in diametre, weighs 900gms and is based on the design of the alethiometer used in the film. It has taken seven craftsmen about a year to make the model and it is intended that the alethiometer be displayed at the upcoming Japanese premiere. Has The Golden Compass movie wrecked New Line Cinema?
Posted by Ian on February 7, 2008 at 5:37 am
Actor Colin Farrell recently explained to reporters that a film in which he stars, “Pride And Glory”, has had its release pushed back until 2009. He explained that contrary to popular belief that the film simply was still incomplete, the delay was in fact a direct result of The Golden Compass movie. He says that he feels New Line lost everything on the film and states categorically “they literally don’t have enough money to market things”. Read the (short but interesting) article here.

New Line Cinema to be folded into Warner Brothers?
Posted by Ian on January 23, 2008 at 3:32 pm
According to Nikki Finke in her Deadline Hollywood Daily Blog, a planned meeting took place earlier this week between New Line Cinema and the new chairman of their parent company, Warner Brothers. the result of this is that founders Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are to lose their positions and New Line’s current projects, including ‘The Hobbit’, are to be folded into Warner Brothers. This is seen to be the result of a string of financial failures since the end of the Lord of the Rings franchise. There is no mention of The Golden Compass or His Dark Materials franchises and their future. Read about it here.

Addenum 24/1/08: Theonering.net reports that New Line have confirmed by email that there is no substance to the suggestion that Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are about to lose their jobs and that all their projects would remain with the company. You can read about it here.
