The Butterfly Tattoo US Premiere
Dynamic Enterprises‘ film adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novel The Butterfly Tattoo (a.k.a. “The White Mercedes”) will open this coming Friday the 19th in New York City at 410pm at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. Director Phil Hawkins and lead actress Jessica Blake will be in attendance. Tickets are available at the festival website or through the producers.

The Butterfly Tattoo World Premiere
The film adaptation of Pullman’s novel The Butterfly Tattoo (previously published as “The White Mercedes”) will open Saturday, 13th September at the Film by the Sea Festival at Vlissingen in the Netherlands. With its world premiere at the Big Theatre, this independent production by Dynamic Enterprises will share a screen with such predecessors as Babel, Das Leben der Anderen, and Chocolat. “TBT” will also screen at the Dutch Film Festival in late September, followed by the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival on 19th September as opening feature. Director Phil Hawkins won “Best Director” award at the 2006 edition of the New York festival for his first film as director, The Women of Troy.

Butterfly Tattoo Previews?
Apologies from the staff here at BTTS for the absence of news – August has been a sleepy month. The official facebook group for The Butterfly Tattoo movie has been updated and informs members that there will be an announcement soon regarding when previews of the movie are to take place. In addition, the official movie website has been overhauled (including a slightly altered trailer from original teaser we saw earlier this year) and is now a frontage for movie. The Butterfly Tattoo hoping for Cannes
The South Manchester Reporter features an article about The Butterfly Tattoo film director Phil Hawkins, who is himself a Mancunian. The article discusses much of his upbringing in South Manchester and his subsequent development as a film maker. It discloses, however, that Hawkins and production company Dynamic Entertainment are hoping to be invited to show the film at the Cannes film festival and are currently on the longlist for invitation. Around 15 to 20 such films are normally shortlisted by the Cannes jury and this should be complete by the end of April. Hawkins also states that he hopes the film will be shown at June’s Edinburgh Film Festival and in Las Vegas. Read the article in full here. We’ll keep you posted on when the film is to be released!

Teaser Trailer Premiere of The Butterfly Tattoo
Dynamic Entertainment have today released a teaser trailer for their movie adaptation of Philip Pullman’s critically acclaimed novel The Butterfly Tattoo (previously published as The White Mercedes). Chance to Appear in Pullman Film
The producers of The Butterfly Tattoo are offering to chance to appear on screen in the movie adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novel. Friday sees the filming of a large ballroom scene where the principal characters first meet, and “150 to 250 extras” are sought. The Oxford Mail reports that, “Men and women aged 18 to 30 are needed to act as guests at the ball, with women wearing ball gowns or full evening dresses and men wearing tuxedos or tailcoats.” Production assisstant Lew Fryer states that, “All extra work is unpaid, but food will be provided. This will be a very exciting shoot to be involved in, especially for people who would like to get involved in the film world. It’s a great way of learning more about the industry and making good contacts.”

The Butterfly Tattoo Film
Rik Visser, of Dynamic Entertainment Ltd (and a member of our forums) has today announced that his company have optioned the rights to make a film adaptation of the Philip Pullman novel [i]The Butterfly Tattoo[/i]. Since March last year, this site had been supporting Rik in his successful bid to convince Pullman of his plans. Included in these are the notion of “an 'open source' film in which the entire Philip Pullman [fan] community can play a part.” Rik adds, “Our crew will consist of up and coming talent and we even have an award winning director tentatively attached. ” More information is to be posted on a project website shortly.
