The official film website now features an extended trailer produced for last week’s multi-genre fan festival Comic-Con. Mostly a re-editing of the footage shown to the press at Cannes, it features previously unseen footage of Dakota Blue Richards and the rest of the cast. A higher resolution version is available over at Yahoo!.
Really the only thing I have a problem with that we’ve seen so far is that Mrs. Coulter already knows the prophecy of the witches… I guess that means we won’t get to see her break any fingers.
Yeah, what is with knowing about the prophesy already!! Maybe she won’t be sure until she breaks some fingers, and even then, she will still not know for sure. Maybe. But probably not.
I was kind of disappointed in the number of plot deviations but I get the sense that the general feeling of the story was preserved so I’m happy. I think Dakota is an amazing actress, I’m not sure if I can reconcile her to my idea of Lyra, but she really is fantastic. I cannot STAND Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel though. He’s a good actor, I just don’t see him resonating power the way Lord Asriel seems to. (This is coming off really negative, but I really DO think the film is probably the best they could do with it, I’m just being nit-picky).
I thought it was great, loved DBR as Lyra, Daniel Craig looks good too- loved his face in the scene when roger dies. Daemons were done well especially loved when stelmaria come through the doors, and when the golden monkey attacks pan.
Only a few things bugged me: I never imagined the wardrobe to have a window (not very important I know), the scene with lyra and roger was badly edited - clearly what we heard comes from several different conversations (but that won’t be an issue in the film) and does any one know what lyra throws into the seperator at Bolvangar?
Wow- this preview has confirmed suspicions that TGC will be very, very different from what I had imagined- as well as very, very amazing. The acting and effects (esp. daemons) looked superb, and the overall “feel,” though not what I’d thought, of course, seemed dark enough and was a whole lot more interesting than a lot of current fantasy epics.
For everyone (including myself…) that is disapointed in the lack of certain details/ huge plot bits, I think that in order to actually enjoy the movie (which I want to do very much), we just have to think of it as almost seperate from the book. If TCG hadn’t been written, and the movie was coming out, it would look pretty darn good, wouldn’t it? Can’t wait till December…
If you look closely you can see Dust, its pouring off Roger towards the end! It loks amazing. We also know that the poisoning happens- i have a feeling theres a photo somewhere. It looks breathtaking!
The preview is great. I don’t understand how some of you seem to know that huge chunks of details from the books are left out in the movie. We only have 5-6 mins of footage so far.
Fantastic! When I saw the first trailler in the cinema, I wondered if maybe you have nt spoild Pullman s work. Now, I feel so happy about my favourite book been adapted!!! I LOVE It! But it s quite different than all I have immaginate, exept when the bear (Iorek Byrnison) is careeing Lyra. One thing only, Pan s voice is … well : ;-(, horrible. ^^. Bye bye, and good movie. Number One. PS : My website will open in a few months. Please, visit it in November.
okok about dust… lay your fears to rest, because if you watch behind the scene footage from the golden compass blog site, Asriel asks Lyra, “What do you know about dust?”
I am really liking the trailer, and the way its all done is feeling positive. I do have some issues too like lots of people: I still think its sad the witches don’t fly on their cloud pines, and Eva Green looks too ‘human’ for me.
Also I am really pleased with Lyra but I agree with someone above: I feel more ferocity from the character in the book. In the scene where the monkey jumps on Pan, she just doesn’t look pained enough. I hope they get the emotion of disgust and shame right when a person holds another’s demon as that is really interesting.
But on the whole VERY EXCITING!
lord asriel doesn’t have that aura of great power that he does in the books.
and lyra isn’t as fierce as she should be. they did mrs. coulter well though
aside from the fact that she doesn’t have black hair. i hate how lyra looks scared
when he roars in her face. I LOVE pantalimon’s voice!!!! hopefully in the movie they will have dust and the poisoning asriel. I love serafina and the cloud pine.
Wow!!!!! Fantastic!!! Dakota is brilliant!
