Extended Edition Hint?
Posted by Will on April 11, 2008 at 5:07 am

Energy points us towards dvdactive’s revealing of a DVD cover for The Golden Compass that, if correct, would seem to confirm that an extended cut of the film is on the way. The cover has “2 Disc Extended Edition” at the top, which is quite clear phrasing. It doesn’t seem to be a finalised version of a DVD cover, however, and it’s getting a bit late in the day for an extended edition to be revealed. Click the image on the left to take a closer look.

Despite all my high hopes, I’m still very doubtful. That’s just an old image: it’s supposed to read “PLATINUM EDITION.”

I does seem odd. Whilst is does say “Extended Edition”, it seems like it refers to the 2-disc edition, with extra bonus content, but not an Extended Movie.

I think we’d have an announcement on a Subtle Knife film before having an Extended Edition.

Potter's Pimp says:

I think if they did do an extended cut, it would mean no Subtle Knife, to save wasting perfectly good footage (and millions of dollars).

does this mean we may finally get the ending?

It’s the two disc special edition as published in the UK. Have a look at Amazon UK.

Jacob says:

Not necessarily, Potter’s Pimp. They could produce an extended cut and still leave out the ending for TSK. There’s plenty of footage from other scenes they could use to make an extended version of TGC.

All that aside, I seriously doubt the release we’re getting on the 29th is an extended cut.

It would be positively wonderful if we could see an extended version of the film, but I doubt this is authentic…*sighs*

Well, the official movie blog has only posted the Theatrical single-disc version on DVD and the 2-Disc Platinum Edition. If we do see an extended edition I’m sure it probably won’t be released until the holidays later this year. If I read correctly, they don’t even mention anything about deleted scenes AT ALL in these 2 versions of the DVD, so I’m sure we’ll see an extended version eventually.

Grissha says:

I guess they wouldn’t confirm an extended cut before the original version is released, since they know that many people (including me) wouldn’t buy this one, but wait for the probably FAR FAR SUPERIOR extended/director’s version.

The final scene better freaking be on this DVD, or in a sequel–one or the other! They CANNOT deny us that, dammit! >:(

I want the extended edition NOW! :(

Is the 2-disc edition coming out in the UK on Monday the extended version? I hope it is!
