Some additional filming for The Golden Compass will be taking place in Oxford this week - the 15th and 16th of June. The area around the Radcliffe Camera (pictured left) will see some footage being captured, although no actors will be present. Thanks to Anne for the tip.
There was extensive filming going on on Saturday, with production vans all over the city, particularly in the Queen’s/New College area. I feel sorry for the person who chose the filming dates, I can’t imagine a worse weekend! Not only was it the last day of term with all the students were moving out, but hundreds of physics and engineering students were finishing their finals at the exam schools, so all the trashing celebrations were going on in the areas of filming. The crews looked remarkably amused at the sight of students covered in flour, feathers and eggs, not to mention one particular student in his underwear, wrapped in cling film and covered in squid…
I can see them filming from my flat near Oxford, I can actually see a lot of smoke around the Radcliffe Camera right now and the light is shining down on it to illuminate the building.
The filming is of additional scenes a) To clear up the story
at the beginning of the film and b)to beef up Danial Craigs
part and has so far consisted of lots of shots with the
majestorial guards matching through radcliffe square with
Lyra and the other children running past them and lots of
additional filming in queens college involving Lyra and the
other children.
The crew have packed up today (20th) but are back next week
in Radcliffe Square for more night shots on sun 24 - tue 26th.
I was in Oxford last weekend with my family and we saw them filming this in Radcliff Square, I am a big fan of the books and I am looking forward to seeing the film, it will be great. We saw Lyra running with her best friend Roger. There were lots of tourists taking pictures. We managed to speak to Roger he is really sweet,he has a loverly smile and blue eyes. How could they kill such a sweet boy?
AWESOME!!!
