Posted by krebbe on February 20, 2008 at 2:01 am
The Chinese site hisdarkmaterialsnews.com have announced that The Golden Compass is to be one of the twenty foreign films annually approved for screening in China and is set for release on March 28. Although it is currently unclear whether the film will be subject to censorship, its release on the big screen is bound to bring a huge boost to China’s His Dark Materials fans. Thank you to tato on the forum and our partners cittagazze.com for the tip-off. A Google translation of the Chinese article can be viewed here.

Ah, good-o! Any idea whether they’re dubbing or subbing it?

(Oh and just as a matter of interest about the whole 20 films thing (although I didn’t know about this rule either), people in China by and large don’t go to the cinema much, if at all, but (bootleg) DVDs of pretty much any movie you could want are cheap and prolific.)

Riali: That makes a lot of sense. And a good question too. I’d say they’re subtitling it but I really don’t know.
