Golden Compass Trading CardsPosted by on October 16, 2007 at 4:58 pm
A trading card game revolving around The Golden Compass will be released this November. The cards are set to retail at $1.99 a pack and there will be a base collection of 72 different trading cards. Also included in one pack from approximately every 24 packs will be a special bonus card, featuring a swathe of film costume material. Oh come on! They’ve had trading card games for Harry Potter, Spiderman, and even Lord of the Rings. All films of this type get the trading cards treatment - this isn’t unusual. And to be fair, I like them and I’ll probably be buying a pack! It’s great to pass the time in a car or plane journey so why not!! Lighten up, guys, merchandise like this won’t take anything away from the book OR the film. October 15, 2007 2:25 am | link

Some of the pictures are kind of pretty, but I wouldn’t really buy them myself. Although I do like the packaging…. rawr, bear! What concerns me is the fact that they appear to have the wrong spelling for alethiometer on the card…. ‘aleithiometer’ indeed. wow… all i can say is that i hope this draws more readership. i mean, come on, the books aren’t that popular in the states and i’m not sure even harry potter had this much merchandise before the first film, though they’ve certainly caught up… still, the more promo, the better… hopefully it wont get too out of hand though. The cards look great but once again its all about making loads of money and they have lost sightt of the books and the stories. So has Roger been killed off before the film has started?
