The first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy, Northern Lights, has been awarded the ‘great book’ title - the best children’s book from the last 70 years of Carnegie medal winners. You can read more here.

This is fantastic, and well-deserved. I mentioned it in my most recent book review. Hopefully this will encourage the parents who pick books for their children based on awards to go out and buy NL for their kids.
