Roundtable: Chris Weitz
Posted on by Will

New Line held press roundtables for The Golden Compass London premiere with some of the main cast and crew. Director Chris Weitz has the most interesting story to tell of anyone involved in this production. We recorded the full roundtable with The Golden Compass director – hear him discuss studio interference, the reasons why he initially left the film and how he thinks it’s turned out in the end.

Umm…there was only about a couple of minutes on that. He only got to the part about getting married.

  2. Ashe says:

I just listened to it but sadly the whole interview isn’t there. It’s only the first few minutes. I do look forward to hearing the rest though. =)

  3. Will says:

    Sorry; should be fixed now.

  4. Amy T. says:

Very interesting! Chris Weitz sounds very intelligent, and I just love how he understands the nuances of the story, and that he has so much concern and passion for the material. I hope so much that 2 and 3 will go ahead, and that he will be given more free reign from the studio to be true to the theological/philosophical elements of the story.

  5. Radrappy says:

I think the super director’s cut he speaks of would be the best thing ever. I’m already excited about the DVD release!

  6. Jamie Sutherland says:

I love him. I want him to be my friend. Ahem. I mean, yeah, he sounds like an alright geezer.

  7. Domenico says:

Is he really going to release a director’s cut? When?

  8. Will says:

From what he’s said, it sounds as though he’d like to do one, but doesn’t think New Line will be that amenable to the idea.

  9. Mockingbird says:

‘I love him. I want him to be my friend. Ahem. I mean, yeah, he sounds like an alright geezer.’

I want him to be my *boyfriend*. Think he’ll leave his wife? 😛 Really, no director’s cut? If the movie does very well, those greedy bastards will go for it. I’m sure they weren’t planning on doing ones for LoTR either…

I think like with Kingdom of Heaven, a director’s would be an entirely different thing.
