The Manilla Bulletin Online writes of the efforts New Line are going to to promote The Golden Compass, with the company’s Executive Vice President for International Sales (Nestor Nieves) arriving in Manila this week to give a “ten minute primer” on the film. Nieves has already visited South Korea and Hong Kong with the same agenda, and tells the Bulletin, “We did this kind of marketing and promotion for ‘Lord of the Rings,’ touring all over the world and sharing snippets of the movie to create excitement and awareness for the epic movie and it worked very well. That’s why we’re doing this again for The Golden Compass. Somehow, coming here to personally share this excitement for a very important movie in every region establishes a connection to our global audience.”

Nieves also went on to mention that New Line Cinema has already spent 5 million in production for The Golden Compass: “Just for special effects alone, we have spent millions already. We have two companies working for us for the special effects of this film, one in Los Angeles, California and one in London.” Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangkok and Taiwan are still on Nieves’ Asian promotion itinerary. This is awesome. I have already seen Borders filled with His Dark Material posters and stuff. I like Harry Potter and was a little excited about it, but I have not shut up about Golden Compass since I discovered it was coming out. I love the fact that everyone is so excited, even those who have only seen the previews. I have had two friends borrow the book in order to read it and loved it all because of a 2 minute preview
