Kirjava

Kirjava is Will Parry's Dæmon, she takes the form of a cat. Will doesn't discover that he has a dæmon until he and Lyra sail into the World of the Dead and his dæmon is torn from him. Only then even the dæmon herself gains consciousness. Will is finally reunited with her in the Mulefa World. The dæmon is cryptically named Kirjava by Serafina Pekkala.

Actually Kirjava is a Finnish word meaning 'multi-coloured' or 'spotted'. Finnish is probably Serafina's native tongue, as her name is Finnish and her homeland around Lake Enara in Lyra's world corresponds to northern Finland of real world.
