The Horse Fair is the great event of the Gyptian calendar. It is held annual in the second week of July during which
| "Port Meadow is bright with flgs, banners, tents, and pavilions and the coloured silks and rosettes of the horses being shown and traded, while the canal is crowded from Folly Bridge to Wolvercote with narrow boats from every part of the kingdom.
