The Amber Spyglass is the spyglass Mary Malone builds in the World of the Mulefa. It allows the human eye to see Dust as the Mulefa eye can see unaided. Although it was designed by Mary Malone as a result of an experiment to trap Dust, Mary eventually created this miniature device by separating two sap lacquer lenses from each other via a tube that was designed by the Mulefa. Once the oil from the wheel pod trees was smoothed on the lenses, Malone could see the Dust currents in the atmosphere, and constantly observed it in order to see the loss of Dust in the Mulefa's world. but she didn't know what had caused it or how to stop it.
