Worlds
The word worlds refers to the different and parallel dimensions that exist.
Bare Rock World
Will cut into this world when he wanted to get into the cave to rescue Lyra. It was a
| "... bare, rocky place., where the moon glared down from a starry sky onto a bleached bone-white ground where little inserts crawled and uttered their scraping, chittering sounds over a wide silence." | |||

Beach World
Will Parry used the Subtle Knife to cut into this world, along with the angels, Baruch and Balthamos when they were escaping from Metatron. There was no drinkable water nearby.
| "They were on a sandy beach under a brilliant moon. Giant fern-like trees grew some way inland; low dunes extended for miles along the shore. It was hot and humid." | |||

Later, Will, Lyra and the Gallivespian spies, Lady Salmakia and Chevalier Tialys escaped into this world for a safe night's sleep after Iorek Byrnison repairs the broken knife.
Cittàgazze World
Gallivespian World
This world is populated by two species: the Gallivespians and humans, most of whom have allegiance to the Authority. Pantalaimon and Kirjava visited this world when they were separated from their humans and verified that the humans were enemies of the Gallivespians.
Holland or Denmark like World
Will, Lyra and the Gallivespians were able to stock up on some food supplies in this world before Will cut through to the World of the Dead. When he first cut through, they found themselves in a
| "... in what looked like a prosperous farmyard in some northern country like Holland or Denmark, where the stone-flagged yard was swept and clean and a row of stable doors stood open. The sun shone down through a hazy sky, and there was the smell of burning in the air, as well as something less pleasant." | |||

Industrial City World
When Will was first learning to use the knife, he cut into this world. It was a smoke-laden world with a line of chained slaves walking into a factory.
Kingdom of Heaven
Lord Asriel's World
This is the location of the Basalt Fortress. It takes the angel Baruch two days to fly here from the Siberian tundra in Lyra's World. There's also an invisible gateway from Cittàgazze into this world. Ruta Skadi saw it as
| "a great mountain range reared its peaks -- jagged spears of black rock, mighty broken slabs and sawtooth ridges piled in confusion like the wreckage of a universal catastrophe. But on the highest point, which as she looked was touched by the first rays of the morning sun and outlined in brilliance, stood a regular structure; a huge fortress whose battlements were formed of single slabs of basalt half a hill in height, and whose extent was to be measured in flying time." | |||

Lyra's Hair World
At the instruction of John Parry's ghost, Will cuts a small hole into a world and places the hair that he has cut from Lyra's head into this world. He seals it quickly and gets it done just before the bomb goes off.
Lyra's World
Mulefa World
This is the land of the Mulefa. It's covered in grasslands of multi-colored grasses and wildflowers. Rivers of rock run through the grasslands. Mary Malone later learns that these rivers of rock are the highways for the Mulefa. There are also huge seedpod trees that are twice the size of the California redwoods. These trees are necessary to the survival of the Mulefa. There are also many hummingbirds, deer-size grazing animals. Will cuts a window in to this world to release the ghosts from the World of the Dead.
Shaggy Beast World
Will cuts into this world when he is experimenting with the different feel of the knife cuts and making sure he could find his way back home. He experiences a feeling of "resonance" when the world he cut into was in the same place as the one he was in.
| "He found himself looking at a glassy upland meadow under an overcast sky, in which a herd of placid beats was grazing -- animals such as he'd never seen before -- creatures the size of bison, with wide horns and shaggy blue fur and a crest of stiff hair along their backs." | |||

Tropical Rain Forest World
Will cuts into this world to show Iorek what the opposite side of the knife can do.
| "He opened a world where a tropical rain forest streamed and dripped, and where vapors laden with heavy scent drifted out into the thin mountain air." | |||
